The American Hero

This music composition was originally a solemn war hymn, words by Nathaniel Niles and sung to a tune known as "Bunker Hill". Connecticut music publisher and composer Andrew Law, then created and published a 4 part choral work based on the song in 1781. It is not known for certain, but Law may have actually been the original composer of the tune "Bunker Hill".

The battle of Bunker Hill outside Boston took place on June 17, 1775 and was a serious event wherein more than 1500 soldiers were killed. The British lost over 1/2 of their soldiers while attempting to take the hill from the entrenched American patriots. This event was a historic moment where the American colonials realized they were without doubt now at war with one of the world's most powerful military forces.

We have created an orchestrated instrumental version of The American Hero to give you an idea of the serious nature of the song and how it lends itself to serious music notation.
