The Music Of The Wind
Recordings of aeolian wind and solar arrays used to generate sound.
Aeolian is defined as action or effect of the wind. The word is derived from the name of the Greek god of the winds, Aeolus. The words is used for landforms generated by the wind, or sediments transported by the wind and for constructed musical instruments generate music caused by the wind such as the instruments used for these recordings.
An aeolian harp, also called a "wind harp" can be small enough to fit on a window sill or a large outdoor instrument.
We have created various arrays of wind instruments, including wind harps, chimes, and what is known as the "weeping bamboo", an array of bamboo flutes arranged in such a way they they are responsive to the wind.
We have also created arrays of solar cells designed to create sound from electrical impluses transformed to sound, using changes of light intensity from the sun, changes as subtle as clouds passing in front of the sun.
