In the legends of many countries and cultures, the music of the faeries (sidhe), and also the "celestial musicians" of Asia, is of such enchantment, and such subtle charm, that no one who has heard it can resist its power and in one way or another, they are fated to be connected to the enchantment ever after.

It is also said that if an individual happens to fall asleep on a fairy "rath" and should happen to hear the music from within, the music will enter into his soul and change him forever.

Many of the people who have once heard the fairy music become enchanted, and some cases one could say "possessed" by the music, which haunts them even to their death. Some tales say that hearing this music can also give them a strange and unusual grasp of music and a type of musical power over the souls of men. This was said to be the case
with the famous harpist O'Carolan. Stories say that he acquired the amazing magic of his tunes after sleeping out on a fairy rath at night while a young man, and the fairy music came to him in dreams; and on awaking he played the airs from memory.
In this same way, it is said that others of the legendary bards and harpists learned their songs, and they were skilled musicians. Some even say that some fairies were so impressed by the musical abilities of these bards that they often gathered round at times to listen, to hear the music of these master musicians, but were invisible to most mortals.
But it also said that there are at time dangers associated with this music and that those who hear the music of the faeries can be driven mad by the enchantment.........
One tale tells of people also who hear the fairy music when sleeping
on a rath, and ever after are enchanted and haunted by the melody day and night, so much so that some grow mad with the longing to be with the fairies and hear their music. In some cases many are driven to despair by the madness of longing and have committed suicide, often nearby a faerie rath.
